'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3' is family-friendly and features heroes from the movies and comics

At first glance, the game seems to crib a lot from “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Endgame.” Both movies feature Thanos and his Black Order as the villains, and so does the game. The game also remains faithful to older “Ultimate Alliance” games, which play like isometric action role-playing games — such as Diablo III.

IGN gathered together 21 new facts about the Nintendo Switch exclusive. Here are 10 of the most interesting ones:

  • Characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are playable, but other heroes like Wolverine, Venom, Miles Morales and Deadpool can also join in the action. There are 27 playable heroes in all.
  • You can gain team bonuses depending on which combination of four characters you use. Having a team full of Spider-Man-related heroes will give you the “Web Warriors” bonus. Team bonuses can stack, too.
  • The Alliance Enhancement System allows you to spend points and credits to power up your whole team at once.
  • Items called ISO-8s can provide small bonuses that can turn the tide of battle.
  • The Classic camera gives players a classic viewpoint up above the action while the Heroic camera gets up close and is better for people playing solo.
  • Heroes can combine attacks into Synergy Attacks, like Iron Man bouncing a beam off Captain America’s shield. Extreme Attacks are powerful moves that can also be combined to wipe out enemies.
  • Locations in the game include a Kree warship, Avengers Tower, New York City and the X-Mansion.
  • The game is written by Marc Sumerak, who is known for writing family-friendly Marvel comics. The story will focus on the Infinity Stones and will feature aspects from both the MCU and the comics.

“Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3” is developed in partnership between Marvel Games and Team Ninja and will be available for Nintendo Switch on July 19.
